Frequently Asked Questions

For the entirety of the time you are studying with us, we will keep record of any infractions via a “Demerit System.” The Demerits count is cumulative, meaning they will always increase or be added to, but never decrease or go down. Demerits can be accumulated in two ways: generally (infractions not specific to a single course), and within a course (course-specific infractions.)

Course Infractions

Aside from accumulating Demerits in general, Demerits can also be accumulated in an individual course. If you accumulate a total of 15 demerits, then you will be required to take that course all over again.

5 Demerits

• Improper weeks-per-lesson spacing.
• Improper weeks-for-course timing. (E.g. Spending only 5 or 6 weeks on an 8 week course.)
• Taking Quizzes in less than the specified spacing time without prior permission.*

*Not following proper spacing between Lessons/Quizzes, like taking two quizzes in the same week.

General Infractions

5 Demerits

• Not following prerequisites. (Taking a course before the required prerequisite(s) are completed.)
• Inappropriate Profile Picture
• Abuse of, or bypsassing, the HelpDesk System (2nd Offense. A warning is issued for the 1st.)
  (Abuse: e.g. sending in multiple tickets about the same issue in the same quiz/course, or multiple messages in the same ticket without a response from SLBC in between. Especially within a short timeframe, such as the same day.)
  (Bypassing: e.g. repeatedly contacting SLBC Staff directly, instead of using the HelpDesk system. Or contacting SLBC Staff directly, after submitting a HelpDesk ticket.)

10 Demerits

• Disrespectful behavior towards SLBC Staff or other students. (This includes email messages to SLBC Staff.) 
• Obscene or abusive language or behavior towards SLBC Staff or other students. (This includes email messages to SLBC Staff.) 
• Deliberately/purposely (at SLBC Staff's determination) ignoring or not following clear, repeated, instructions.
  (Such as modifying certain parts of your Moodle profile without permission. For example, the "Activity Status".) 
• Abuse of, or bypassing, the HelpDesk System (3rd Offense.)

15 Demerits

• Abuse of, or bypassing, the HelpDesk System (4th Offense.)
  (Action regarding further offenses of this nature will be at the discretion of SLBC Staff.)

20 Demerits

• Violation of school policies, other than what is mentioned in the other demerits lists.

25 Demerits

• Plagiarism (1st Offense)
  Note: a paper on this topic will be required, and a temporary Level 1 Suspension will be in place until the paper is completed (submitted and accepted.)

50 Demerits

• Plagiarism (2nd Offense)

100 Demerits & Expulsion

• Cheating
• Plagiarism (3rd Offense)

Accumulation Levels

Overall Demerits Accumulation:

• At 50 Demerits, you will receive a warning.
• At 75 Demerits, you will be suspended for a set number of weeks/months. (Depending on infractions.)
• At 100 Demerits — immediate expulsion or suspension from the school. (Depending on infractions.)
